The Bitcoin Game

The algorithm takes input blocks of 64 bytes, combines the data cryptographically, and generates a 256-bit (32 byte) output. I also punched a card with the input to the hash algorithm. I ended up using one character per bit. The algorithm is designed to be implemented efficiently on machines that can do bit operations on 32-bit words. Internally, the computer was very different from modern computers. I won’t try to explain IBM 1401 assembly code here, except to point out that it is very different from modern computers.
