Steward started WWT in 1990 as an electronics distributor specializing in telecommunications networks, conversion services and enterprise wide imaging. It now operates in 4 million square feet of warehousing and distribution space worldwide.

Steward and his wife Thelma live in St. Louis and are major supporters of Concordance Academy of Leadership and Variety the Children’s Charity of St. Louis. He is also a member of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. His father worked as a mechanic, trash collector and janitor to support his family of ten.

4. Bill Gates Jr.

The father of Bill and Melinda Gates, who founded Microsoft, has made philanthropy a priority. He was an early leader in the foundation and he shaped its major goals around improving education and world health.

The son of a prominent Seattle lawyer and his wife, Gates was often argumentative as a child. His parents sent him to Lakeside School to try to control his behavior. He and his friend Paul Allen wrote computer programs to debug the computers at the school, and they also helped computerize electric power grids for the Bonneville Power Administration and started a business with Allen writing a program that analyzed traffic patterns.
